    • This is the last Will and Testament of me Philip Pepler ofBratton in the County of Wilts Yeoman  Igive and Devise unto my Son John Pepler all that my Messuage or Tenement Closeof Meadow, Arable Land and all and singular other the premises situate lyingand being in Bratton aforesaid and in my own occupation which I hold by Leaseunder the most Honorable Thomas Marquess of Bath bearing date the third day ofJune one thousand seven hundred and Ninety Six, for my own life and the Livesof William Pepler and Rebecca Pepler my son and Daughter  To hold unto my said son John Pepler  his Heirs and Assigns for and during all myEstate and Interest therein Subject never Theless to and I hereby charge andmake liable the said Lease premises and my said Son John with the payment ofthe sum of Two Shillings a week to my said Daughter Rebecca for and during theterm of her natural life – to commence from my death and be – separate and fromher present or any future Husband and wherewith he shall in no wisw---intermeddle neither shall the same be subject to his Debts Curent orEngagement but the receipt of my said Daughter Rebecca alone shall be asufficient discharge for the said sum And in case of the Nonpayment thereof I authorize my said Daughter to distrainfor the same as in cases for Rent in Arrear All the Rest and Residue of my Goods Chattels  Money and Securities forMoney Debts and all other my personal Estate and Effects (subject to the paymentof my just Debts Funeral and Testamentary Expences) I give unto my said sonJohn and appoint him the sole Executor of this my will, hereby revoking allformer wills  In Witness whereof I haveto this my last will and Testament contained in one sheet of Paper set my Handand seal this first day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand EightHundred and thirteen.

      Counterpart lease from 3rd Viscount Weymouth to Philip Pepler of Edington, Wiltshire, yeoman.
      The lease is granted in consideration of the cancellation of a former lease of these premises granted by Lord Weymouth to the said Philip Pepler on 2 March 1774 (in which the lives of Sarah Pepler and William Pepler, son and daughter of Philip, are still in being), and also in consideration of ten pounds paid by Philip Pepler to Lord Weymouth.
      To hold for the term of the natural lives of the said Sarah Pepler and William Pepler, and of the said Philip Pepler, now aged 50. At an annual rent of five shillings and four pence; heriot ten shillings.
      The tenant covenants to do suit to the manorial court, to carry out sufficient repairs to the property, and to plant three timber trees each year at the bounds of the premises.
      The lease is endorsed: 'Entered fol. 183 [See notes from this survey page, below], and 'Lease cancelled and another granted to the said Philip Pepler 3rd June 1796'
