Daughter to Samuel Peploe, Bishop of Chester

  • Notes
    • "By the way Mary Peploe, the Bishop's daughter lived with her father until his death and then late in life married the elderly Francis Jodrell but he only survived a short time. Apparently the joke in Chester at the time of the marriage was that Mary "would not be keeping her lent"! She then built herself a 'showy little house on the banks of the Dee". Samuel Peploe Junior also had the Archdeacon's house and so there were at least two separate establishments. I own Mary Peploe's bible and in it she signs herself "Mary Peplow 1727" so even then they couldn't decide how to spell the name." (from Rupert Peploe)
