      HERBERT F. PEPLER - Burrillville
      01:00 AM EST on Tuesday, December 7, 2004
      HERBERT F. PEPLER, 89, of Bayberry Commons, Davis Drive,
      Pascoag, a former councilman, and a maintenance man, brewery
      worker, driver and weaver before retiring, died Saturday at Our Lady
      of Fatima Hospital, in North Providence.
      He was the husband of Beatrice (Deroy) Pepler. Born in Burrillville, a
      son of the late Herbert F. and Mary (Gilleran) Pepler, he had lived in
      the town for 65 years before moving to the Chepachet section of
      Glocester in 1980. He moved back to Burrillville 2 years ago.
      Mr. Pepler had worked at the Narragansett Brewery's former
      Cranston facility for 16 years before retiring in 1978. He previously
      had been a driver with Golden Arrow Bus Lines for 12 years and
      North Providence Transportation for 15 years; and a weaver, for 25
      years, at the former Stillwater Worstered Mills.
      In his retirement, he had worked for the Glocester Housing Authority,
      as a maintenance worker at Laurel Crest Apartments, in Chepachet.
      Mr. Pepler had served as a member of the Burrillville Town Council
      for six years, and had been a doorman at the State House for six
      years, until 1986.
      Active in local politics, he had been a member for 40 years of the
      Burrillville Democratic Town Committee. He was a founder of the
      former Burrillville Ambulance Association, and a member of the Glocester Senior Citizens.
      Mr. Pepler was a communicant of St. Eugene Church, in Chepachet,
      where he had served on the finance committee.
      Besides his wife, he leaves two two sons, Ronald F. Pepler of
      Charlestown and Raymond H. Pepler of Burrillville; eight
      grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was the brother of
      the late William Pepler, Mary Courtemanche and Ruth Merrill.
